Manor Lords
A historically grounded medieval strategy game combining gridless city building, deep production chains, and large-scale tactical battles.

The Game Foundry take
Manor Lords sells itself on the burgage-plot screenshots, but the real hook is that battles cost something. Most city builders treat combat as a side quest; here, losing a levy of townsfolk in a field battle sets your production back for real, so war becomes a decision with the same weight as a bad harvest. The gridless building is genuinely different from typical zoning-grid city builders, and the seasonal economy forces you to plan ahead rather than react. It's early access and thinner in the late game than the marketing implies — go in expecting a beautiful first act, not a complete symphony yet.
